WHENEVER YOU SEE THIS POST ON YOUR DASH, STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND WRITE ONE SENTENCE FOR YOUR CURRENT PROJECT.
Just one sentence. Stop blogging for one minute and write a single sentence. It could be dialogue, it could be a nice description of scenery, it could be a metaphor, I don’t care. The point is, do it. Then, when you finish, you can get back to blogging.
If this gets viral, you might just have your novel finished by next Tuesday.
In terms of how Wentworth behaves towards Anne over the course of the novel, Persuasion is 99% “I’m so over you. Do you see how over you I am? I’m going to flirt with this girl I have absolutely no feelings for right in front of your face, just to show you how over you I am. I may just end up marrying her solely in order to make it clear that you are no longer on my mind”. And then segues immediately to “you pierce my soul. I have loved none but you.” There is no middle ground between these two states. At no point do they pause on friendship. I’m not even sure they have a conversation before Wentworth gives up the act. Never, in the history of literature, have two people more obviously been Not Friends.
“The first thing I did when I got back from the hospital was to ask my assistant to call Paul and Julian and John’s Aunt Mimi. I thought that they should know. I’m sure that that remark is not going to make George and Ringo happy, but that was the first instinct I had.”
(Yoko discussing the 3 people she called after John’s death.)“The Last Day In The Life” Newsweek (July 1999)
3 calls were placed; one to John’s son, one to John’s aunt who raised him. the fact that paul was among the first people yoko felt on instinct she needed to call and inform, speaks volumes of the immeasurable bond between john and paul that we’ll never fully know or be able to put into words.
